Many times in the podcast that I record once a week, I complain about how little space and time there is for women lucha libre in Mexico. After carefully listening to what I said on the latest podcast, I kind of felt like a hypocrite, mainly because I've barely dedicated any time to promote Mexican women wrestling, so from now on I'll try to publish more entries related to the subject.
To begin with this subject, I have for you a match of one of my favorite luchadoras, Lady Apache.
There's a certain point of her career that I remember the most. There was a period of time while she was working for CMLL in the first decade of this century, in which she was booked to face japanese wrestlers, Mima Shimoda and today's rival, Hiroka. Just to clear something, I'm not ignoring the fact that she also used to work for AAA, simply It's really easy to remember this stage in Lady Apache's 28 years as a professional wrestler.
Anyway, what makes Lady Apache one of my favorite luchadoras is the way she executes La Tapatia. In its original form Rito Romero's submission hold it's beyond difficult to apply, but once it's achieved it's amazing to watch. Well Lady Apache went a step beyond and made it more complicated by adding a variant of La Rueca to this hold, which you will be able to see in the following video.
From 2009 and sadly in a lightning match (there's a 10 minute limit for these type of fights), Lady Apache faced Hiroka, whom beat Lady Apache in a Hair versus Hair match back in 2006. This is all for today, I'll see you next week.
