5 Mil Mascaras Masks

Last Friday in Arena Coliseo of Guadalajara, there was a lucha show to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Mil Mascaras' debut in Lucha Libre (fact, Mil Mascaras made his first appearance in Mexican rings on a July 16th). To kind of celebrate this I have for you something based around in his initial gimmick, which is/was to wear a different mask on every match he was in. So, here are 5 Mil Mascaras masks that probably you haven't seen before.

And being that he's one of the mot important figures in lucha libre, I'm not using shitty low resolution pictures, no sir! I went a step beyon and made illustrations for each mask. Let's begin

Eagle Warrior (Guerrero Águila)

Being that Mil Mascaras has built his career wrestling on foreign countries, some of his masks have patriotic elements in them. Going from the colors of the Mexican flag,  using the word Mexico as the main element for a mask and of course adding some pre hispanic components to a couple of his masks, this is one of them.

I like the colors used for it, the head of an aztec eagle warrior turn to be an interesting shape to form the eyes of the mask and finally the curious design of the mouth.

Doves (Palomas)

I don't know if Mil Mascaras wanted to promote world peace or something like that with this mask, but whatever reason he had to make this design, this one of my favorite masks from Mister Personalidad.

Cactus

Sadly my Illustration isn't as awesome as a picture of the real mask. I found an image of it in which I noticed an interesting detail, the outline of the cactus had the form of spikes, I'm guessing he was trying to represent the thorns of said plant.

Why would he choose a Cactus themed mask? I have no idea. Bare with me, it's quite difficult to find pictures of most of his masks, now imagine how complicated it turns out to be finding the explanation for each of those masks.

Monster

Somehow I managed to find this rare mask from Mil Mascaras and after watching it carefully, I must say is just ugly, a very different design, but still awful. I mean he was trying to pass as a monster with this mask, so yeah, he made it.  Anyway, I'm pretty sure that many ladies out there would envy this monster, most of them would love to have those huge eye lashes... or is it his eyebrow?

Bat / Shark

This an excellent fusion from two of his most known masks. I don't remember seeing this mask before the announcement of the movie Mil Mascaras: Heroe in 2009. Now that I mention it, what happen with that movie? All I could find of it, is that is part of Mil Mascaras' filmography. While I look for answers, I must say that I'm thankful for giving us this awesome mask.

That is all for this week, maybe in some point of the future I'll bring more masks from Mil Mascaras'.  I'll see you next week.
