On April 24th, one of the four greatest luchadores in mexican wrestling, Alejandro Muñoz Moreno, better known as Blue Demon, would have turned 92 years.
El Manotas left lucha libre with a bang, winning three bet matches in which he conquered two masks (Rayo de Jalisco and El Matematico) and the hair from El Matematico.
To remember him, today I have for you, one of his last matches, in which he faced El Rayo de Jalisco for their masks in La Plaza de Toros Monumental in Monterrey, back in 1989.
The way this match got to be looks like a storyline from WWE.
Blue Demon received a plaque as an homage from the mayor of Monterrey at some point of the 80's. El Rayo de Jalisco was one of the guests for the ceremony, apparently he just snapped and attacked Blue Demon, ok no, he didn't snapped, in an interview El Rayo de Jalisco acknowledges that he was jealous of Blue Demon and destroyed the award from the mayor. Rayo de Jalisco argued that Blue Demon didn't have as much success as he had and that he should have been the one being honored
Doing a bit of research and analyzing the info to check on Max Linares's (El Rayo de Jalisco's real name) argument, really there's not much difference in victories in luchas de apuestas and conquering championships between Blue Demon and Rayo de Jalisco. What I wouldn't have agreed at the moment with El Rayo de Jalisco is the part of him being the one honored, mainly because of the fact that they were at Monterrey, NUEVO LEÓN, taking account that Blue Demón was born in Villa de García, NUEVO LEÓN, I'm guessing that the ceremony was meant to honor a distinguished Neo Leonés, El Rayo de Jalisco was born in Mexico City.
But anyway! If Rayo de Jalisco wouldn't lost his mind over a plaque we wouldn't have this match.
