En Busca de un Ídolo, first final

So last Friday began a new rendition of another CMLL tournament, En Busca de un Idolo, which is the third time that this competition has been held, because of that, today I have for you, the very first final of En Busca de un Idolo.

If you're not familiar with this tournament, the idea is basically that CMLL picks eight luchadores that usually fight in the first matches of a show, divides then in to two groups and the winner gets to be on the main events for a year. It is cool that CMLL gives this kind of opportunity to the rookies in its roster... OH WAIT. Apparently someone in CMLL forgot the purpose of La Gran Alternativa, another competition to support new talent that has been organized since 1994. So, what is the point of En busca de un ídolo?

Well to be fair, the format of each tournament is different, La Gran Alternativa lasts three shows and teams up a rookie with a veteran, while en busca de un idolo are one on one lightning matches (they have a time limit of ten minutes) and it lasts from one to two months. The prize for the winner is a bit different, la gran alternativa “just” gives a spot on the midcard and sometimes main event, for en busca de un ídolo has judge panels that rates each luchador in every match and the prize is the same as in alternativa, but they give other things like a championship match, a trip to a mexican beach and a one year membership to a gym.

The first time I found out about en busca de un idolo, it didn't make any sense from a booking point, mainly for the fact that when it was first announced, la gran alternativa ended a couple of weeks before and the luchadores chosen for this first edition were the same competitors from la gran alternativa, including Euforia who was the winner of the 2012 edition, pretty much a Cornette Face situation.

Fortunately most of the matches in the first edition were really good, reaching the final literally the two best luchadores of that competition.

The 2013 edition, that's a rage inducing story and I don't want to talk about it today, maybe sometime later.

Anyway, from 2012 the final match from the first edition of en busca de un idolo, that had Titan and Euforia ad the finalists, hope you enjoy it.

See you next week.
