Lucha Libre Hall of Fame and Museum

So this week, to be precise on Wednesday, will take place the ceremony for Glorias de la Lucha Libre, which is meant to be the hall of fame for lucha libre (AAA has its own hall of fame, but it’s only for people that worked for the company), which is awesome. The list of the first inductees is quite large, there are a few names missing but most of them deserve that place.

It was an idea that took a lot of time for it to be real and had to be done, especially if you consider the vast history behind lucha libre. Also it’s not like Mexico has no experience in making hall of fames, there’s the Mexican Baseball hall of fame in Monterrey and the World Football hall of fame in Pachuca.

I only hope that the lucha libre hall of fame has a physical place to visit, but I think that’s asking too much considering how long it took for someone to come up with the concept.

Anyway, last year I was kind of day dreaming about how I would choose the people in my own version of the lucha libre hall of fame. So here it goes.

I did a brief research on how some hall of fames choose their candidates and the one I liked the most, was from Cooperstown. If you’re not familiar on how they picked their hall of fame members for baseball in the US, well, the short version is that they have a list of former players and baseball related names that to get in to Cooperstown, they have to get at least 75% of the votes, that will be casted by a group of specialists.

But, since it’s my idea the first group of inductees would have to be of only four luchadores and without voting: El Santo, Blue Demon, Mil Mascaras and Huracán Ramírez (Daniel García). Or is there someone who dares to question what these four luchadores made throughout their careers?

Another thing I had in mind was to build a museum not only with the history of wrestling in Mexico, but from all around the world and of course a place for the hall of fame and space to held lucha libre shows every now and then.

Yeah, that last paragraph sounds a bit surreal, but if someone out there ends up doing that, it just would be great.

So, this is all for this week. I’ll see you next Tuesday.
