Padrisimo (Father's Day Lucha Libre Show)

Everything is possible in the lucha libre world, from El Santo in the cover of a comic with Princess Leia (I'll get to it someday), to a show in which AAA and CMLL luchadores are in the same matches. Yup, what some of us consider that it would happen only when hell froze, took place 14 years ago to celebrate father's day.

How they managed to make this happen? Well we can thank mexican television network Televisa for that, which worked as an intermediary between AAA and CMLL. In June 2th a press conference was held with the presence of Antonio Peña (AAA founder and owner at the time) and Francisco Alonso Lutheroth (CMLL Owner), they announced the Padrisimo lucha libre show that would take place in the Plaza de Toros México on June 17th.

Truth to their style, AAA generated polemic before the father's day presentation, Los Vatos Locos, Los Consagrados and a few more luchadores from AAA roster invaded CMLL's show in the Arena México on the same day of the press conference. A brawl between AAA and CMLL luchadores was about to start but security from Arena México didn't let anything happen.

Another invasion from AAA took place before the show on June 17th, this was more aggressive since AAA luchadores using CMLL luchadores masks, got in the ring and attacked the wrestlers who were on the middle of a match. From the dressing rooms more luchadores came to rescue their co workers, this time  the brawl did start and finished when The Vipers were escorted by security and the police out of Arena México.

Finally the date arrived and the show bill was presented as follows:

Cobarde, El Texano y Sangre Chicana (AAA)
vs
Olímpico, Mr. Niebla y Emilio Charles Jr (CMLL)
-------------------------------------------------------------
Satánico, Ultimo Guerrero y Rey Bucanero (Los Infernales CMLL)
VS
Tarzan Boy, Héctor Garza y Latin Lover (AAA)
-------------------------------------------------------------
Electroshock, Bestia Salvaje y Pirata Morgan (AAA)
VS
Felino, Heavy Metal y Negro Casas (CMLL)
-------------------------------------------------------------
La Parka, Octagon, Súper Porky y Rayo de Jalisco
VS
Shocker, Pierroth, Abismo Negro y Cibernético

The date finally came and the Plaza Toros was bearly to half its capacity. I couldn't find what was the process to get tickets for this show, but I'm guessing that wasn't the main reason for the poor attendance, considering the fact that the show was presented  just two weeks early.
At the time being, I remember being excited for this presentation. Finally we would be able to see which lucha libre company was the best in México. The result, well, the matches were good, but I was expecting a bit more and after it ended I was disappointed, the main event finished with a major brawl between all the luchadores from both companies in the show. It's quite funny to see Negro Casas coming out of the locker room covered in soap, since it looks like he interrupted his bath to take part of the fight, luchadores throwing chairs at each other and using fire extinguishers as (I'm guessing here) chemical weapons or something similar.

So you can make your own judgment I leave you with the complete Padrisimo event. I'll see you next week.
